DIY 3D Art From Wrapping Paper

Published by Penelope Quinn on April 9, 2017

I hate throwing away pretty wrapping paper! Even worse is leaving it to languish in a dark drawer, so here is my new favourite way to upcycle some special paper into a special piece of wall art.

3D Wall Art Decoupage Wrapping Paper

Here’s how to make you some 3D Art from recycled wrapping paper.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Wrapping paper – I found this very-on-trend flamingo number at Paper Chase.
  • Thick spongy cardboard (about 20cm x 20cm is all you need)
  • Double sided tape
  • Scissors
  • Photo frame

1.First, think about what bits of your paper you’d like to pop out – make sure you have wrapping paper that repeats itself so you have at least 3 or 4 layers of the same.

2.Your first layer will be the base and should be the whole picture. Then, cut out your foreground. I chose the flamingo, plus several of the flowers.

3.Now stick two pieces of double sided tape to either side of the cardboard.

4.Cutting off small slithers about a half a centremetre wide – smaller if you need to – then stick these onto the base where you want your next layer to sit. Peel off the top of the tape and stick down your next layer.

5.Keep building – 3 layers is a good place to start!

6.Take the glass out of your frame and mount your picture.

7.Done!
